Wi-Fi

The upgrade of the Wi-Fi was finally completed yesterday; a big thank you to Sure Computers, based in Holt. Their persistence and tenacity saw the project through a number of issues over the last 6 months.
The upgrade entailed replacing Caravan Connect for both the Caravan Site and the Cottages.
Caravan Site
Caravan Connect’s Wi-Fi offering for the Caravan Site was expensive (£17.50 per week), was limited (only one device at a time) and suffered from poor connectivity. The first challenge was to improve the connectivity; this was achieved by running a cable from the central hub, via the control box, to the mast on top of the caravan site’s shower block. Ian and the gardener installed the cable, and Sure Computers connected both ends. Transmitting from the mast gives all pitches an uninterrupted line to the transmitter. Whereas previously; the Caravan Connect transmitter was mounted on the side of the house with the silver birches interfering with the caravanner’s line of sight. Consequently the caravan site Wi-Fi reception is much improved. Moreover Sure computers have provided a service which allows more than one device to be used at any one time. And we have priced the Wi-Fi for the caravan site guests competitively – a one-off access fee of £2 for the duration of the caravanner’s stay, compared to Caravan Connect’s £17.50 per week.

Cottages
Caravan Connect’s Wi-Fi offering to the Cottages was free of charge, but it was limited (only one device at a time) and again suffered from poor connectivity. The poor connectivity was caused by the Wi-Fi’s inability to pass through 18 inch solid flint walls. This was overcome by running a cable from the central hub, via the control box, to each cottage. Once again Ian and the gardener installed the cable, and Sure Computers connected both ends, with a hub installed in each of the three cottages. The speed of the Wi-Fi through the cable is much improved at around 30mb per second. Again, Sure computers have provided a Wi-Fi which allows the cottage guests to use more than one device at any one time. And the Wi-Fi continues to be provided to the cottage guests free of charge.

As noted above, Sure Computers are based in Holt and will address any Wi-Fi issues as they arise. A significant improvement on Caravan Connect’s unmanned helpdesk.

The Wi-Fi for both the Caravan Site and the Cottages is now live.
